How Reflexology works
Reflexology is a deeply relaxing, non-invasive touch therapy which supports health and wellbeing.
It is based on the principle that a mini map of reflex points and zones on the feet correspond to all organs and systems of the body as well as an individual’s emotional health.
When pressure is gently applied to reflexes using specific techniques, reflex pathways are stimulated, tiny deposits and sensitive areas in the feet are balanced and blockages released, enabling the free flow of energy to be restored encouraging the body to function at its optimum.
Reflexology works very much on an individual basis, with the practitioner providing professional facilitation of the body’s own potential for healing.
How Reflexology can benefit you
Reflexology is a safe, calming and deeply soothing natural ancient art, dating back thousands of years to early civilisations in China, India and Egypt. Reflexology focuses on treating the person holistically rather than on individual symptoms and can be highly beneficial in helping manage relief from symptoms of a wide range of conditions.
Reflexology can be received by anyone at any age, from newborn to the elderly, those receiving end of life care, and everyone in between. There may be occasions when it is inadvisable to receive reflexology. If you are unsure if reflexology is suitable for you, please do contact us for a chat. Whilst Reflexologists cannot claim to cure, diagnose or prescribe, the benefits of reflexology are widely recognised, and you can expect to experience…
- Increased sense of wellbeing
- Increased energy levels
- Reduced stress levels
- Enhanced relaxation
- Improved sleep following a treatment
Regular treatments can help to maintain health and wellbeing as well as boosting energy and vitality, benefitting mind, body and spirit. It is an indulgent way to relax and unwind.
If you’re curious about reflexology and the positive effect it could have on your life … give it a try!
Please note: Reflexology should not be used as an alternative to professional medical advice but can be used to complement medical treatment.
What a treatment involves
An in depth medical and lifestyle consultation will be completed during the first session in order to tailor the treatment bespoke to your own unique, individual need. Shorter follow up consultations lasting only a few minutes will be completed at each subsequent session to obtain feedback.
You will also be required to sign a consent form prior to treatment. All information provided will remain confidential.
Shoes and socks are all that need to be removed before reclining back under a blanket in the comfort of a cosy LaFuma chair to enjoy the reflexology experience of your choice.
Both feet will be cleansed, and a brief observation undertaken before applying a wax of your choice to begin.
The effects and sensations felt during a treatment varies from person to person and can change with each subsequent treatment. You may experience temperature changes and tingling sensations through different parts of the body, areas of transient discomfort may also be felt. Generally, the experience should induce deep relaxation, a releasing of tension and maybe even sleep!
When the treatment is complete, you will be gently roused to the sound of beautiful Tibetan chimes and offered a short period to recover with a glass of water to aid your body with cleansing and releasing of toxins after the treatment.
A few minutes will be taken to discuss your treatment and recommendations for a treatment plan may be suggested. A temporary and usually short-term worsening of symptoms may occur in some cases following a treatment. This is normal and demonstrates that the body’s own healing process has been stimulated, aftercare advice will be provided covering this and more.
Sessions for babies, children and teenagers
All children (regardless of age) require time to adjust before a treatment. Each session is allocated an hour in order to allow the child to settle and work at their own pace.
Treatment length varies from child to child and will only last for as long as appropriate for each individual child, their condition (if any) and the child’s enjoyment of the treatment. Some children will happily sit for up to 40 minutes, whilst for others, a few minutes of focussed treatment may be extremely effective and enough.
All other elements of ‘What a treatment involves’ are incorporated within the hour session.
Parents and carers are invited to sit back, relax and observe the wonders of reflexology from the comfort of a calm and tranquil space whilst their child enjoys the experience.
